Inside Line Promotions – SALEM, Ind. (April 28, 2021) – Mandy Chick earned a career-best finish during JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance competition on Sunday at Salem Speedway, where she captured a runner-up result during the Midwest 250 presented by Scott County Tourism & Lucas Oil.

Inclement weather hampered the weekend and shortened the time the drivers received on the track prior to the race.

“That’s where our recent testing really benefitted us,” she said. “We didn’t have much time on the track last weekend. I think the first session was 20 or 30 minutes and then the next session was 20 or 30 minutes to do a mock run and then a qualifying run. We were already prepared with our cars thanks to VanDoorn Racing Development.”

Chick qualified 11th quickest, which lined her up on the inside of the sixth row for the 100-lap main event.

“The race started out really interesting because there was a Lap 1 incident that a lot of cars got caught up in,” she said. “The lane in front of me closed up. I blended to the top and a bunch of drivers from that lane were in the wall. It was insane. At that point my spotter couldn’t help me that much. It’s just split-second decisions and was certainly a wild start to the race.”

Chick maneuvered through the incident without any trouble and picked up a handful of positions.

“We still had 99 laps so we had a long road ahead,” she said. “We had the mindset that we avoided that, but we’re not done yet. We raced hard the rest of the race. We raced with Mason Mingus side by side for a while. We were really good on long runs. I enjoyed racing side by side with some guys. We had some good, hard racing and it was nice to race side by side without any issues. That’s something I really enjoy is being able to race hard without running into each other.”

Chick methodically worked her way to a second-place finish, which was her career-best run with the series as well as at Salem Speedway.

“We were a little tight on entry, which kept me from driving in as hard as I wanted to on both ends,” she said. “Other than that, the car was consistently quick on a long run. The guys worked so hard and so did VanDoorn Racing Development. It was really cool battling in that race with our competitors. They are high-caliber racers and it was cool to be up there with guys like Mason Mingus and all of them. It was an honor to finish second.”

Chick will be off from racing this weekend before returning to action on May 8 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., during the North/South Super Late Model Challenge with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance.

“We are hunting checkered flags this year,” she said. “To come in second at Salem Speedway and have the car in one piece, we can move forward and hunt checkered flags at Nashville. I’m really excited. It’s a confidence booster for my team and myself. We’re excited to see what we can do the rest of the season.”
